"I just wanted to say what a fantastic holiday we had. The house was wonderful, a really special place to stay. The welcome pack and honesty box were much appreciated as was all the information about the house and local area. Terry and Lisa made us feel very welcome the moment we arrived and were keen to discuss interesting things to do and see. Alhama is just wonderful, and a very different experience in July than in early April which was when we visited last time. The pool at the villa is just perfect for lazing in and cooling down, the children spent alot of time playing in it. They also particularly enjoyed the very special top bedroom and shower and the view of the stars from the top terrace. Thank you so much we had a fantastic time."

"We were in the house for over three weeks in April 2010 and really enjoyed our stay. Steve and Allison couldn’t have been more helpful when we got marooned by the volcanic ash cloud.
Alhama is beautifully located - on a dramatic gorge surrounded by rolling, hilly countryside - and has its own strong character with everything needed in the way of shops, bars and restaurants. Walk over a hill at the top of the town and there are views to the snow-covered Sierra Nevada.
It’s a strong dose of high, inland, “pueblo” Andalucia, a pleasant one and a half to two hour drive from Malaga Airport. Granada is about an hour away with several buses daily. The Alpujarras (“Driving over Lemons” etc?) are at day trip distance.
Terry and Lisa – who look after the house – are well-embedded, long-term Alhama residents and have fluent Alhaman Spanish (ie machine-gun speed Castillian without the letter “s” and dropping random syllables). If you’re interested in any aspect of the surrounding country, Terry’s local business, The Alhambra Rambler, is the place to start.
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa del Horno. The property lived up to website expectations - clean on our arrival and the welcome package a lovely touch, with enough to keep us ticking over long enough to find the local shops.
Close enough to stroll into town for a great selection of tapas, yet far enough away not to be disturbed by the ferria that was in town during our stay. Local corner shops were fantastic and everyone was extremely patient with our rudimentary Spanish.
Nights were cool but peaceful - a real joy to sleep with the windows open and not hear the high drone of mopeds so often found in small Spanish towns!
The info folder was a very useful, and we enjoyed trying and comparing the many different tapas available in town - a wonderful way of spending late afternoons and evenings!
The couple (Terry and Lisa) that arranged our lift to and from the airport could not have been more helpful, from pointing us in the right direction for places to eat to inviting us along on visits to the 'cave village' and picnicking in one of Spain's wonderful national parks.
We enjoyed al fresco breakfasts most mornings, supplemented by wonderful fresh pastries sold from the white van that stopped around 9 - 9:30 each morning right outside the front door... We came home rested and refreshed from a truly relaxing holiday."

"Our stay in Casa del Horno was just what we needed. The house is situated within easy walking distance of banks, bars, restaurants and supermarkets - so if you are happy to stay within the locality, there is actually no need for a car. We flew to Granada and arrived at Alhama by bus. (You don't have to be young to do it - were well into our fifties).
Casa del Horno is well equipped and as a renovation is beautifully conceived with lots of spaces to explore. The outside patio gets the afternoon sun and is ideal for a lazy lunch, or for sunning before/after a swim. The local tourist office has all the info you need for walks etc. We had a great week...thank you Steve and Allison!"

"We had a fantastic time - feeling instantly settled the moment that we arrived. This is one very, very relaxing town! This is proper Spain where you can switch between "siesta mode" and "active mode" very easily. The house is perfectly positioned within the town and superbly appointed in keeping with the culture and atmosphere."

"What a great place! The house was just perfect. Plenty of places to find your own spot and get down to doing nothing. In the end there were seven of us staying and yet it never felt crowded. We loved the top room, especially the open air shower! Great to sit on the terrace up there and watch the light fade, the birds flocking and settling in the trees and the stars coming out.
You've chosen a great town. Alhama is a lovely little place. So relaxed and so Spanish. Many great evenings spent enjoying the tapas in various bars. Never found a bad one. And we tried! And when the younger generation turned up they found plenty of places to see and be seen. Somehow we ended up in some of them too and happily failed to act our age!
Jo loved the huge pool at Pato Loco. Had it to herself for a couple of hours of serious swimming every time we went there. I did some not so serious reading at the side. Their menu del dia, with a bottle of wine thrown in and all for €8 each, led to lazy afternoons before strolling down the beautiful gorge back to town.
I could go on! Just a really lovely, friendly, charming town. We’ll be back!"
